Kid’s Lunch Box Recipe

Angry Birds Bento

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • 2 of 1/3 sweet corn
  • ½ cup mixed frozen vegetables
  • 1 slice of sandwich cheese
  • Carrot (thumb sized portion)
  • 1 small bowl of sushi rice
  • 1 hard-boiled egg
  • 1 kiwi fruit
  • Nori sheet (seaweed)
  • 1 crab stick, red portion
  • Side dish of your choice
  • 2-3 toothpicks
Method
Red Angry Bird
  1. Blanched the frozen vegetables and sweet corn in boiling water for a few minutes. Remove, drain well and set aside.
  2. Scoop 1½ tablespoons of cooked rice in a bowl and add in ¾ teaspoon or more tomato sauce and mix till combined. Use cling wrap and shape rice into an oval rice ball. Set aside.
  3. Using another sheet of cling wrap, shape 1 teaspoon of cooked rice into a flat oblong shape and join it to the base of the coloured rice to form the base.
  4. To make the eyes, cutting out circles from a slice of cheese using a big straw. To make the eye balls cutting out smaller circles from a nori sheet. Make the beak and crown by using carrot.
  5. Use toothpicks to secure the cheese or carrot on the Angry Birds’ face Complete this by 2 ‘eyebrows’ using seaweed strip.

White Angry Birds:
  1. Shell the hard-boiled egg. Slice a thin portion off the bottom of the egg to make a flat base
  2. Cut out circles from a slice of cheese by using a big straw, and smaller circles from a nori sheet respectively to make the eyes.
  3. Cut out the beak from a carrot. Secure the eyes and beak by using a toothpick.
  4. We used a cherry tomato for the bird ‘crown’. Or you can also cut out a small heart shape from a strawberry.
  5. Lastly, use 2 seaweed strips to make the ‘eyebrow’.

Green Bear:
  1. Cut 4 kiwi slices about 0.5cm thick.
  2. Cut out the ears and nose using the remaining kiwi. Attach the features on one of kiwi slices by toothpick.
  3. Cut out circles from a slice of cheese by using a big straw, and smaller circles from a nori sheet respectively to make the eyes.
bulb Lastly, arrange all the items into the bento box with any side dish of your choice such as fried ebi (prawn) or teriyaki chicken.
