Western Cuisines and Ingredient usage
Like how Chinese cuisine is simply Sweet and Sour Pork, Stir-fried Black Pepper Beef, Peking Duck, Fortune Cookies and Dim Sum to most Westerners, European cuisine is generalised as mash potatoes, French fries, steaks, sausages, salads, sandwiches and pastas in this part of the world. But this is not the case! Delve a little bit deeper and you will discover that there are over 50 countries in Europe – this alone will already give you 50 types of cuisines excluding region-specific cuisines. This time, we feature three of Europe’s most iconic cuisines – Italian, French and Spanish – each cuisine has an exciting story to tell with its distinctive ingredients.
Italian cuisine
Italian cuisine immediately brings to mind favourites such as the Tiramisu, pastas and pizzas. The latter has won the world over for its taste, versatility and convenience. You can practically find pizzas in almost every country in the world made with traditional ingredients or localised with native flavours such as wasabi, tom yam, chicken curry, chilli crab, tandoori and others.

As for pastas, there are over 300 kinds of these basic staple ingredient made fresh and dried in various shapes and sizes. So how do you go about using the types of pastas? Depending on the dish, dried pastas such as macaroni and spaghetti are ideal as they are easier to handle as compared to fresh pastas such as the ravioli and tortellini which are softer and break easily. CORNINGWARE cookware is the ideal preparation companion for your pasta dishes as it is handy for use in the oven (when you bake a lasagne), stove (boiling pasta) and microwave (to heat up leftover pasta). As the cookware also comes in an assortment of designs, it matches your CORELLE dinnerware too!
